A Return to Club Cycling

Latest from Cycling UK....
"Following the announcement that new restrictions on group gatherings will come into force in England on Monday 14 September, we are awaiting further details of the new rules before updating our advice on organised group riding."

Following the latest advice from Cycling UK, we are pleased to announce that we are now resuming club rides, and our runs list is now available for download (http://www.burnleyandpendlectc.co.uk/rides/ride-lists.html ).
In order to be Covid-19 compliant, however, there are guidelines that we need to follow. All riders need to read and be familiar with Cycling UK's recommendations at: https://www.cyclinguk.org/news/coronavirus-advice-and-guidance-group-cycling.

Please also note the following:

  • If you are new to our group, please contact Harry Taylor (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., 07522 343181) before attending one of our rides to discuss the ride and confirm your attendance, as we have strict limits to the number of participants on each ride.
  • New riders who are Cycling UK members should bring their membership card on their first ride. (non-members are also welcome for a 3 ride trial period).
  • We will require contact details for Track and Trace on the day of the ride.
  • Although our rides will stop in the vicinity of a cafe for lunch, we are unable to guarantee that indoor or outdoor seating will be available as each establishment will have it’s own unique setup. Riders are advised to either book themselves a table beforehand (we will aim to arrive for 12-noon), or take a picnic lunch.
  • Please bring a face covering. You won’t be required to wear it whilst riding, but situations may arise where one is necessary.
  • Please be self-sufficient with regards to tools and repairs. Social distancing means that if you have a mechanical issue / puncture etc, although we can offer advice, you must be prepared to carry out your own repairs.
  • Please do not attend any of our rides or activities if you have symptoms of Covid-19, or live in an area currently under extended local restrictions.

We look forward to seeing you.

Bridlington - May 2020

The current situation with the Coronovirus pandemic is very unlikley to be other with by May, so it's extrememly unlikely that we would be able to go ahead with our weekend trip to Bridlington.  We're therefore advising anybody who has already booked, to cancel their accommodation.

Premier Inn's Semi-Flex booking allowed cancellation up to two weeks before the arrival date, and I've had emails stating this is now extended up to the night before.  We have also heard that the nearby caravan site is now closed.

Once things return to normal, we will look at re-scheduling for later on in the year.

Beryl

We are thinking of running a theatre trip to see "Beryl" by Maxime Peake on 18th Oct. 7.30 p.m (suggested).

This extraordinary true story and energetic play is about sporting heroine Beryl Burton, who became a major cycling champion in the 1960's.

After falling ill during her 11+ exam, Beryl is told she won’t amount to anything so she sets out to prove everyone wrong!

Fast-forward several years, and a blossoming workplace romance with charismatic amateur cyclist Charlie Burton leads Beryl to find true love - not only with Charlie but with the thrill and freedom of being on two wheels.

Venue:Library theatre, Bolton Museum BL1 1SE. (Bolton Octagon temp. venue).

Running from Thu. 19 Sep. to Sat 19th Oct.

Friday prices:- £19, £25, £29. (no group discount on Fridays so doesn't matter how many come). (there are currently tickets left, but couldn't find out how many on their website)

If any of our regular riders are interested, please contact Chris Marshall, or you can book yourself for that night or any other night. We could go for a meal before (Olympus is very good). If enough are interested, a minibus is a possibility.

For more information, please see https://octagonbolton.co.uk/whats-on/theatre/beryl/
