The current government guidelines for Covid-19 changed on 29th March, allowing the "Rule of Six" to once again come into effect for outdoor meetings and activities.
There are also exceptions for larger groups for "organised group rides", under the banner of sporting activities, but we are currently being cautious as to how this applies to our more socially oriented rides and lunch stops.
With this in mind, our committee will be meeting next week to discuss our return to group cycling, with a view to restarting club rides shortly after May 17th, when the outdoor restriction on social gatherings increases to 30 people.
This is, of course, all dependant on the Government roadmap and the UK's Covid-19 recovery going to plan.
In the meantime, as we're all looking forward to meeting up again, we encourage our members to informally meet up for small "bubble rides" of no more than six.
Looking forwards to seeing you all in the non-too-distant future.
We will be holding this years Annual General Meeting on Thursday 4th March @ 7:30pm.
Due to the ongoing Coronovirus situation, however, we will be unable to host this face to face.
Instead, Cycling UK will be opening up a Microsoft Teams virtual meeting for us,
Any Cycling UK member wishing to attend, or with points for the committee to address, should contact Mark Clegg or John Ramsden quoting their Cycling UK membership number by Tuesday 2nd March and we will forward on the online invite.
Only last week we wrote that with the (then) current restrictions, and exemptions for organised group rides, we felt able to resume more normal activities, and published a new rides list.
As with all things Covid-19 related, the rules change on a daily basis, and in light of the governments latest information, as of Monday 14th September, Cycling UK are now advising member groups that the exemptions allowing larger group rides are no longer practical for member groups to follow.
"Cycling UK can no longer advise groups that they can rely on the organised activity exemption. Accordingly, our advice in England is that group rides in England should be restricted to a maximum of six participants. "
Please see the Cycling UK guidance for group rides for full details.
We must always put the safety of our members first, and, after careful consideration of several options, we have decided that the safest course of action is to once again suspend club activities. The rides list published last week has therefore been removed from our website, and should be disregarded.
Members are still encouraged to go out cycling, and can form small social bubbles of no more than six riders, whilst adhering to local and national restrictions.
Obviously, we're disappointed to have to bring you this news, so soon after our last mailshot, but are sure you'll agree, it's in the best interest of our members.
Keep safe, follow the "Rule of Six", and happy cycling
Burnley & Pendle CTC Committee.
Latest from Cycling UK....
"Following the announcement that new restrictions on group gatherings will come into force in England on Monday 14 September, we are awaiting further details of the new rules before updating our advice on organised group riding."
Following the latest advice from Cycling UK, we are pleased to announce that we are now resuming club rides, and our runs list is now available for download (http://www.burnleyandpendlectc.co.uk/rides/ride-lists.html ).
In order to be Covid-19 compliant, however, there are guidelines that we need to follow. All riders need to read and be familiar with Cycling UK's recommendations at: https://www.cyclinguk.org/news/coronavirus-advice-and-guidance-group-cycling.
Please also note the following:
- If you are new to our group, please contact Harry Taylor (
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , 07522 343181) before attending one of our rides to discuss the ride and confirm your attendance, as we have strict limits to the number of participants on each ride. - New riders who are Cycling UK members should bring their membership card on their first ride. (non-members are also welcome for a 3 ride trial period).
- We will require contact details for Track and Trace on the day of the ride.
- Although our rides will stop in the vicinity of a cafe for lunch, we are unable to guarantee that indoor or outdoor seating will be available as each establishment will have it’s own unique setup. Riders are advised to either book themselves a table beforehand (we will aim to arrive for 12-noon), or take a picnic lunch.
- Please bring a face covering. You won’t be required to wear it whilst riding, but situations may arise where one is necessary.
- Please be self-sufficient with regards to tools and repairs. Social distancing means that if you have a mechanical issue / puncture etc, although we can offer advice, you must be prepared to carry out your own repairs.
- Please do not attend any of our rides or activities if you have symptoms of Covid-19, or live in an area currently under extended local restrictions.
We look forward to seeing you.
The current situation with the Coronovirus pandemic is very unlikley to be other with by May, so it's extrememly unlikely that we would be able to go ahead with our weekend trip to Bridlington. We're therefore advising anybody who has already booked, to cancel their accommodation.
Premier Inn's Semi-Flex booking allowed cancellation up to two weeks before the arrival date, and I've had emails stating this is now extended up to the night before. We have also heard that the nearby caravan site is now closed.
Once things return to normal, we will look at re-scheduling for later on in the year.
Our Annual Inter Club Quiz will be held at Boyce's Barrel in Colne on Monday 17th February 2020 - 7:30pm
If you haven't yet registered your team, and book your supper, please contact Ian Lowcock on 01282 812842 before Friday: Cost is £5 per person.
On Sunday 1st March we will be celebrating David's 90th birthday.
